Swimming in Rhodes

We got up early enough to see the sunrise before heading out to our tour bus on the island of Rhodes. It was a long bus ride to the town of Lindos where we went to the acropolis. It was just a big temple at the top of the highest mountain but it had some spectacular views. We saw St. Peter's Lagoon where Peter took refuge in the lagoon to protect himself and his men from a storm that had hit them. Once we had stayed up there for a bit, we walked on down back to the bus where we drove to a clay maker's shop. We watched the man make the pots and vases and then went into the shop to see some ladies paint designs on other pieces of pottery. It was beautiful. I couldn't resist; I bought a small vase with some beautiful designs on it. We rode back to the city of Rhodes and went through the medieval city surrounded by walls and dry moats. It is actually number 4 out of 10 on the world heritage sites (and Vatican city being number 3). So I have now seen 2 out of the 10 world heritage sites. We went back to the ship to have lunch and then put on our swimsuits to head to the beach. On the way over to the beach we saw the place that is a potential spot for where the huge statue of Colossus stood. It was a perfect day for swimming and the water looked amazing. Or so we thought . . . . the water was FREEZING!!!!!!!!!!!!! It sure didn't look like it when we went there but it was. There was a huge diving board out in the water and Mel decided to try it out. I wasn't up for it so Mel went out on her own and jumped. It was really high in the air! We didn't stay for very long because we were cold and it was getting time for the ship to head out of the port. We all took showers when we got back and changed into our cocktail dresses for the Captain's cocktail party that night. We got a picture with the captain and even got called Charlie's Angels twice by the staff of the cruise ship. When the Captain was told that we looked like Charlie's Angels his reply was, "Yes indeed, they are angels." It was a little weird. And only our picture with the captain had him smiling out of everyone else's. Once again, a little weird. At dinner, the three of us promised our waiter Pipit that we would order everything from the menu and eat it. I got French Onion Soup, Cesar Salad, Quail, and a cake. It was very good (except for the quail, I didn't like all of the little bones to pick out). It was Beth's birthday so the waiter's brought out a birthday cake while one waiter had a guitar and everyone sang happy birthday. After dinner we went to the magic show and then to disco after that. We dance for a little bit but I talked to Ian most of the time. We headed back to our room because it was going to be another busy day as well as our last of the cruise. When we got back, a little surprise was waiting for us. There was a turtle this time made out of our towels. It was adorable.
